About this programme
Techscaler is a Scottish Government-funded startup support programme delivered by CodeBase Ltd, connecting tech founders across Scotland with education, mentorship and workspace. It is not a grant or investment fund — it is a membership programme built around learning, community and physical space rather than direct cash.
The programme runs through seven regional hubs (Highlands & Islands, North East Scotland, Dundee & Tayside, Central Scotland, Glasgow & West, Edinburgh & Lothians, and South of Scotland), each with its own Head of Regional Engagement. This spreads the programme beyond the traditional Edinburgh/Glasgow tech corridor into every part of Scotland.
Techscaler takes no equity in any startup it supports. Its core offer sits on three legs: structured education (Techscaler Discovery and Techscaler Catalyst courses), 1:1 mentoring from industry operators, and access to coworking, hotdesking and office space at the regional hubs.
Support is aimed at founders at ideation, early-stage, growth and scaling phases, with the specific mix of courses and mentoring tailored to where a startup is in that journey rather than delivered as one fixed-length cohort.
How it works
Membership itself is free and structured as an ongoing relationship rather than a fixed-term cohort: members are assigned a learning pathway and invited into relevant courses, mentoring and hub access as they become available, and can pause or defer participation as their startup's needs change.
Techscaler Discovery is a free, self-paced online course of 8 modules covering startup fundamentals, founder mindset, problem-first thinking, customer/market research, solution testing, team and culture, and startup funding basics — aimed at people validating an idea, with no coding or prior startup experience required.
Techscaler Catalyst is a 9-week hybrid accelerator (live online workshops plus in-person components, roughly 8+ hours/week) built around 8 core workshops: Problem Discovery, Market & Customer Discovery, Solution Discovery, Pitching, Revenue Experimentation, Going Live, Sales Strategy/Marketing, and Startup Operations. It is fully funded for Techscaler members — there is no separate fee to attend, and Techscaler does not take equity.
Workspace access at the seven hubs is offered as flexible hotdesking, coworking, dedicated offices, meeting rooms and event space; the site describes this as "flexible and affordable incubation" but does not publish fixed tenancy pricing — it directs applicants to the relevant regional hub page for costs.
Qualifying founders can also get free access to Reforge, a membership normally paid for elsewhere, giving Techscaler members Silicon Valley-style growth and product playbooks.
Who can apply
General Techscaler membership requires being based in Scotland, or having senior staff presence in Scotland, and working on a startup at the early, growth or scaling phase with ambition to grow.
Techscaler Catalyst has narrower entry criteria on top of general membership: applicants must be actively building a scalable tech startup, have validated (or be validating) a real market problem, be based in or building the company in Scotland, and have either a registered company or a working MVP/prototype. Catalyst applicants must already be (or become) a Techscaler member — the course itself is then fully funded through that membership.
Techscaler Discovery is open to anyone with a startup idea at any stage of development, including very early or undeveloped ideas, and requires no prior startup or coding experience — though non-members are directed to apply for Techscaler membership before enrolling.
How to apply
- Complete the online membership application form (the site estimates 5-15 minutes; more detail in the form is said to improve the review).
- The Techscaler team reviews the application for programme eligibility.
- If approved, an introductory call is scheduled a few days later to discuss which courses and mentoring fit the applicant's stage.
- The applicant is assigned a learning pathway and invited to relevant courses (e.g. Discovery, then Catalyst) and mentoring as slots become available.
- For Techscaler Catalyst specifically: submit an interest form on the Catalyst page, receive a confirmation email, then follow the link provided to the formal Catalyst application — available only to Techscaler members.
