About this programme
The Matching Grants Research Program (MGRP) is run by the Florida High Tech Corridor Council together with the University of Central Florida and the University of South Florida. It funds sponsored research collaborations between an industry partner and UCF or USF faculty, with the Corridor matching what the company invests.
Corridor funds go directly to the university research team, not to the company, and every project must include graduate or undergraduate student participation, so the program doubles as workforce development alongside applied research.
How it works
The award is up to $150,000 per project. The industry partner co-invests directly in the research, and Corridor funds match that industry contribution.
A university faculty member serves as Principal Investigator and submits the proposal jointly with the eligible industry partner.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis with no deadline.
Who can apply
The company must have a significant presence in the Corridor's 23-county region.
The company must work in one of ten target technology sectors and its research needs must align with UCF or USF faculty expertise.
The company must commit to co-investing in the collaborative research project, and the project must engage graduate or undergraduate students.
How to apply
- Connect: identify a shared research opportunity with UCF or USF faculty; Program Directors can facilitate introductions.
- Develop: work with the faculty partner on the project plan, scope and proposal budget.
- Review: the proposal is evaluated by program staff and a committee of regional professionals.
- Execute: once approved, a sponsored research agreement is completed and the research begins.
