About this programme
The Urban Enterprise Zone (UEZ) Program operates under Indiana Code 5-28-15 to promote investment and economic activity in some of the state's most distressed urban areas. It offers ongoing tax savings to businesses that operate inside a designated zone.
The Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) used to administer the program directly, but during the 2018 legislative session that responsibility moved to local Urban Enterprise Associations (UEAs), which have run the program at the zone level since 2019.
How it works
Businesses located inside a designated Urban Enterprise Zone get tax savings, administered locally through their Urban Enterprise Association.
Zone businesses must file an Enterprise Zone Business Registration (EZB-R) with their local UEA every year to keep receiving the benefit.
Who can apply
The business must operate inside one of Indiana's designated Urban Enterprise Zones, which can be checked on the state's GIS portal (Indiana Active UEZs).
How to apply
- File the annual Enterprise Zone Business Registration (EZB-R) with your local Urban Enterprise Association by June 1 each year.
- If more time is needed, file a Request for Extension (EZB-E) by June 1, which pushes the final EZB-R filing deadline to July 15.
Documents you’ll typically need
- Enterprise Zone Business Registration (EZB-R)
- Request for Extension (EZB-E), if needed
