About this programme

AltCap is a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) that provides alternative financing to entrepreneurs who are overlooked by mainstream lenders, regardless of business size or industry. Its stated belief is that small businesses help create thriving communities, and its lending is built to be more flexible and patient than a typical bank.

AltCap and its affiliate, AltCap California, operate across California, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Texas. The microloan product is aimed at businesses at any lifecycle stage, from startup to mature, using funds to launch, operate or grow.

Because AltCap lends to businesses that traditional lenders decline, startups apply with a business plan and financial projections instead of the historical financial statements a bank would ask for, and there is no stated minimum credit score; AltCap evaluates credit circumstances alongside financials and management ability.

How it works

Microloan capital ranges from $5,000 to $50,000, with terms up to 7 years, at a fixed interest rate of the Federal Reserve prime rate plus 4 to 6%. There is no fee for paying the loan off early.

AltCap charges an origination fee of 5% and a monthly servicing fee of $15, plus possible additional fees for UCC filings, vehicle liens, or title recordings depending on the loan.

Collateral is not always required, though providing it may improve loan terms. For larger debt capital needs beyond the microloan product, AltCap's broader lending range extends up to $350,000.

Applicants with existing loans may still qualify if they can manage the additional debt service.

Who can apply

Businesses at any stage, from startup to mature, in any industry, particularly those that mainstream lenders have turned away, can apply.

The business must be located in one of AltCap's service states: California, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, or Texas.

A free Loan Readiness Quiz is required before an application is issued.
