About this programme
The MicroBusiness Finance Program funds a network of eight certified MicroBusiness Development Corporations (MBDCs) that lend directly to very small Montana businesses, the kind too small for conventional bank financing. The Montana Department of Commerce oversees the program, but each MBDC underwrites, services and manages its own loan portfolio in its own region.
Since 1991 the program has made 1,312 loans totaling $33.6 million and created or retained about 3,396 jobs. It operates under the Microbusiness Development Act, Montana Code Annotated 17-6-401 through 17-6-411, and Administrative Rules of Montana 8.99.401-8.99.405 and 8.99.501-8.99.511.
How it works
Loans go up to $100,000 per business and are made and serviced by one of eight regional MBDCs, not by the state directly. Alongside financing, the MBDCs also provide training and technical assistance to borrowers.
Who can apply
The business must have fewer than 10 full-time-equivalent employees, gross annual revenue under $1 million, and operate in Montana.
How to apply
- Contact the certified MicroBusiness Development Corporation that serves your region of Montana directly to start the loan process.
