About this programme
The Montana SBIR/STTR Matching Funds Program gives technology-based Montana companies state grants to match a federal Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) or Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) award. The Montana Department of Commerce administers it to help those companies finish their federal projects and turn the research into a commercially viable product or service, supporting job creation and economic development along the way.
How it works
The state grant supplies extra funding during the SBIR/STTR phases, on top of the federal award, up to $30,000 per phase per year. Funds must go toward completing the federal project or developing the related product or service.
Phase II state funding requires a prior Phase I award from the Montana program, with exceptions noted in the program guidelines, and the Phase II application must be submitted within 90 days of the Phase I project's end date. Recipients file quarterly progress reports and a final report at project completion.
Who can apply
The applicant must be a Montana technology-based business holding an active federal SBIR or STTR award. Phase II applicants generally need to have already received Montana's Phase I matching funds.
