About this programme
The Collateral Support Program (CSP) helps small businesses that have a strong loan application but not enough collateral to secure it. It is part of Battle Born Growth, Nevada's SSBCI program, and is run by Program Manager Flynn Giudici.
The idea is to strengthen a borrower's collateral position and reduce risk for the commercial lender making the loan, including during gap periods before a permanent SBA 504 loan is finalized. CSP does not lend money to the business directly; it places cash in an account at the participating bank or credit union and pledges that cash as additional collateral for the loan.
How it works
The borrower completes a loan application at a participating bank or credit union in the normal way.
If the lender identifies a shortfall in collateral, CSP can provide support of up to 80% of the shortfall, depending on the loan amount.
That cash support is pledged as additional collateral behind the loan, rather than paid to the borrower.
Eligible uses include permanent equipment, machinery and inventory financing, owner-occupied commercial real estate construction, accounts receivable revolving loans and lines of credit, and SBA 504 Bridge Loans.
The total loan the collateral support attaches to cannot exceed $20 million, and CSP's own collateral support is capped at $5 million per transaction.
Who can apply
Available to small businesses applying for a loan at a participating bank or credit union where the collateral offered falls short of what the lender needs.
The loan must be for one of the eligible uses: equipment, machinery and inventory; owner-occupied commercial real estate construction; receivables-based revolving credit; or an SBA 504 Bridge Loan.
The total loan application cannot exceed $20 million.
