About this programme

The Technology Development Program (TDP), run by the Arkansas Economic Development Commission (AEDC), provides royalty financing for qualified science and technology projects that have potential for economic and employment growth. It exists to help develop and commercialize new technology-based products and processes, bridging the funding gap between concept and commercialization.

The program is designed to be flexible in what it covers: it can bridge funding gaps in SBIR Phase I and II grants, help build prototypes, support developing commercial applications for new technology, or pay for validating university technology.

How it works

TDP invests up to $100,000 per technology development project, structured as royalty financing rather than a conventional loan.

Instead of fixed interest, the company repays through a royalty of 0% to 5% on sales, over an investment period of up to 10 years.

Who can apply

The project must show a well-defined progression from idea to prototype to production.

The project must demonstrate potential for commercialization.

A project cannot be eligible for other AEDC programs at the same time as TDP.

Frequently asked

Is this a loan with fixed interest?

No. TDP is structured as royalty financing: instead of interest, the company pays a royalty of 0% to 5% on sales, over a period of up to 10 years.

What can TDP funding be used for?

It can bridge funding gaps in SBIR Phase I and II grants, build prototypes, develop commercial applications for new technology, or pay for validating university technology.

Can I combine TDP with another AEDC program?

No, a project that's eligible for another AEDC program is not eligible for TDP.

How much can a project receive?

Up to $100,000 per technology development project.
