About this programme

The Technology Transfer Assistance Grant (TTAG) is a matching grant program run by the Arkansas Economic Development Commission (AEDC). It is built to encourage the transfer and deployment of innovative technology into an Arkansas-based business, or to help a company create commercial technology through the federal SBIR program.

The program funds the work of moving outside technology into a company, not the purchase of equipment. It pays for things like engineering support, database searches, travel, and help from universities on a specific technology-transfer project.

How it works

A project can cost up to $5,000 in total. AEDC pays $2,500 of that outright. The remaining $2,500 is split 50:50 between AEDC and the enterprise, so the company puts in $1,250 of the total project cost.

An enterprise can receive assistance for up to two technology transfer projects per state fiscal year.

Grants are generally awarded to technology transfer resource providers, meaning organizations with the capability to locate and transfer the technology. AEDC says that in certain cases, determined individually, the applicant company itself may qualify if it has that capability.

Projects are reviewed and awarded competitively.

Who can apply

The applicant is normally a technology transfer resource provider rather than the end-user business, though AEDC will consider the company itself on a case-by-case basis if it has the capability to locate and transfer the technology.

The business receiving the technology must be Arkansas-based.

Funds cannot go toward fixed assets or training costs; eligible costs are engineering or technical support fees, database searches, travel expenses, SBIR/STTR/ATP program responses, and technical assistance from universities.

How to apply

  1. Complete the TTAG application through AEDC's Formstack portal (formstack.io/BAFAA).
  2. Resource providers must also submit a completed Form W-9.

Documents you’ll typically need

  • TTAG application form (Formstack)
  • Form W-9 (for resource providers)
