About this programme
Small Business Improvement Grants are run by Invest Atlanta, the City of Atlanta's economic development authority, to fund storefront and property upgrades for commercial tenants and property owners inside seven designated Tax Allocation Districts (TADs): Campbellton Road, Hollowell-ML King, Metropolitan Parkway, Perry Bolton, Eastside, Westside, and Stadium Neighborhoods.
A core eligibility test is that the applicant must demonstrate the proposed project would not happen without the TAD grant assistance.
How it works
Grants go up to $50,000 per applicant, and recipients must provide matching funds equal to at least 10% of the grant award.
Projects must be under 15,000 square feet.
Exterior improvements must account for at least 25% of the funds used, covering things like painting, lighting, windows, doors, signage, canopies, awnings, landscaping, and building surface repairs visible from the public right-of-way.
Interior improvements can include flooring, walls, ceilings, HVAC, plumbing, electrical work, and structural repairs that improve the customer or employee experience.
Soft costs such as architectural and planning services are eligible, capped at 10% of the grant amount.
Ineligible uses include new construction, residential properties, government-owned properties, churches (commercial church buildings may still qualify), inventory, day-to-day operations, and businesses primarily involved in tobacco, alcohol, gambling, or adult entertainment.
