About this programme
Maine Venture Fund (MVF) was created by the State Legislature to invest in Maine businesses that have the highest potential for growth and impact. It provides equity capital and stays engaged as a partner after the investment closes, rather than being a passive check-writer.
The fund has made more than $57 million in direct investment across 258 investments, holds a current portfolio of 37 companies, and reports 3,520 jobs created. It has also helped secure $418 million in private co-investment alongside its own capital.
MVF invests across a mix of sectors, including food and beverage, technology, manufacturing, healthcare, and sustainable goods. Its portfolio includes companies in mushroom products, industrial IoT software, seafood operations platforms, timber manufacturing, outdoor gear, and neurological therapeutics.
How it works
MVF acts as either a lead or a follow investor, working alongside co-investors, and runs an efficient diligence process before committing capital.
The process runs in six steps: an introduction call; due diligence and materials sharing; term negotiation and a term sheet; a presentation to the Maine Venture Fund Board; recruiting additional investors; and legal close with fund disbursement.
Who can apply
The business must be based in Maine and show high growth potential, since MVF's legislative mandate is to invest in Maine businesses with the highest potential for growth and impact.
How to apply
- Complete the Initial Introduction form on the Maine Venture Fund website.
