About this programme
The NIF Prototype Grant is a matching program from the Nebraska Department of Economic Development that pays for new product development. It reimburses businesses for a share of the cost of turning an idea into a working prototype, provided the business can bring matching money of its own.

How it works
DED reimburses 66% of eligible project costs, or 80% for value-added agriculture projects, after the business has paid those costs upfront. The standard match requirement is at least 50% of the grant request from a non-state source (private foundations, or federal or local government funds, for example), reduced to 25% for value-added agriculture projects; match funds cannot come from Nebraska legislative appropriations.
Eligible costs include product development wages for employees or contractors, prototype materials, and limited, approved tooling or equipment. Projects must be completed within 24 months of approval.
Who can apply
The applicant must be a Nebraska-based business, whether a corporation, LLC, partnership, sole proprietorship, business trust or similar entity, with fewer than 500 employees, operating in a non-retail primary industry and engaged in adding value to a product or process.
