About this programme

The Nebraska SBIR/STTR Matching Grant Program gives financial assistance to Nebraska businesses that have won, or are pursuing, a federal Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) or Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grant. The Nebraska Department of Economic Development runs the program to help small businesses obtain and get more out of federal SBIR/STTR funding for research and commercialization.

How it works

The program covers three phases. Phase 0 reimburses costs of preparing a federal proposal, up to $5,000 per project. Phase 1 matches a successful federal Phase 1 award, up to $150,000 or 65% of the federal grant, whichever is less. Phase 2 matches a successful federal Phase 2 award, up to $300,000 or 65% of the federal grant, whichever is less.

DED evaluates applications on scientific and technical merit, the qualifications of the principal investigator and team, and the potential for commercialization or a federal contract. The program has a maximum annual allocation of up to $6 million, subject to demand and available funds.

Who can apply

The applicant must be a for-profit small business that qualifies for federal SBIR/STTR funding and performs at least 51% of the proposed activities within Nebraska.

How to apply

  1. Apply through one of three separate application portals on ne.amplifund.com, one each for Phase 0, Phase 1 and Phase 2, which are open simultaneously.
  2. Applications are accepted on a fiscal-year basis, July 1 to June 30, or until funds are exhausted; the current period runs July 7, 2026 to June 30, 2027.
