About this programme

The Entrepreneurship and Innovation Investment (EII) Fund is run by the West Virginia Small Business Development Center's In-Tech Program. It was established under West Virginia code Section 5B-8-1 to encourage job creation and economic development in the state, and to stimulate SBIR and STTR results across West Virginia.

The Phase I/II Matching Award gives state matching funds to a West Virginia business once it has won a federal Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) or Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Phase I or Phase II award.

How it works

The amount of the state matching funds awarded depends on the existing balance in the EII Fund at the time of application, and is typically not a full 100% match.

Applications are accepted twice a year, in January and July. No preference is given to the order in which applications are received within a cycle.

Who can apply

The applicant must be a West Virginia business with an active federal SBIR or STTR Phase I or Phase II award. Closed projects are not eligible.

How to apply

  1. Download the application, available as a PDF on the WV SBDC technology commercialization program page.
  2. Submit during one of the two annual application windows, January or July.
  3. Contact the In-Tech Program for guidance through the process.
