About this programme
The Demonstration Fund helps Iowa companies with market-ready, innovative technologies or products get past the final stretch before commercial viability. The Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) runs it, with VentureNet Iowa managing the review process.
The fund is meant to support marketing and business development activity and to help high-growth Iowa businesses become attractive enough to draw in private-sector funding.
How it works
Awards go up to $100,000 per applicant, structured primarily as loans or royalty arrangements, with a 1:2 private-to-public match (the applicant needs private funding behind the award).
Eligible uses include acquiring personnel or expertise, buying equipment, developing a marketing strategy, creating market materials, developing lead compounds (in bioscience), validating the business model, and gathering market feedback on the technology.
Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis, with funding decisions made bi-monthly. A panel reviews applications, and selected applicants present to IEDA's Technology and Commercialization Committee.
Who can apply
The company must be Iowa-based, have fewer than 500 employees, and be developing an innovative technology solution.
It must be committed to commercializing a product in advanced manufacturing, bioscience, or information technology, with competitive, protectable technology.
The technology or product generally needs to be market-ready, except in bioscience or medical devices still awaiting regulatory approval.
The company needs an essential management team already in place, covering business development, finance, and technology expertise.
