About this programme
The Innovation Acceleration Fund is aimed at growing businesses that transfer technology into competitive, profitable companies creating high-paying jobs. The Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) runs it, with VentureNet Iowa managing the application review process.
The fund exists to accelerate market development, bring in private investment, and encourage the kind of industrial expansion that leads to significant capital investment and high-paying jobs in Iowa.
How it works
The fund has three tiers. Launch offers up to $250,000 to help revenue-generating companies scale from a viable product to an established customer base. Propel offers up to $500,000 to accelerate market development for companies with a validated business model and substantive revenue. Innovation Expansion offers up to $1,000,000 to help profitable companies with complete infrastructure expand their product line.
All three tiers require a 1:1 private-to-public match. Launch and Propel awards are structured as royalty arrangements or secured loans; Innovation Expansion awards are secured loans.
Funds can be used for intellectual property development, competitive analysis and product development, research and personnel recruitment, equipment and construction, marketing and sales expansion, and achieving product economies of scale.
Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis, with funding decisions made bi-monthly, after a panel review and a presentation to IEDA's Technology and Commercialization Committee (TCC) or the State Small Business Credit Initiative Committee (SSBCI).
