About this programme
The Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) Loan Program is a state loan program run by the Mississippi Development Authority (MDA) for socially and economically disadvantaged minority- and women-owned businesses. A business has to be designated as such by MDA's Minority and Small Business Development Division before it can use the program.
Manufacturers, warehouses and distribution centers, and retail businesses can apply. MDA does not issue the loans itself. Mississippi's Planning and Development Districts, Small Business Investment Corporations and Community Development Corporations make the loans, working in conjunction with MDA.
Loan money can go toward land acquisition, building acquisition, renovation or expansion, working capital, or the purchase of machinery or equipment.
How it works
The maximum loan is 50 percent of the total project cost or $250,000, whichever is less.
Terms run up to 7 years for working capital, up to 10 years for machinery and equipment, and up to 15 years for land and buildings.
The interest rate ranges from 2 percent below to 2 percent above the Federal Reserve Discount Rate.
Who can apply
The business must be socially and economically disadvantaged and minority- or women-owned, and designated as such by MDA's Minority and Small Business Development Division.
Manufacturers, warehouses and distribution centers, and retail businesses may apply.
The personal net worth of the business owner cannot exceed $500,000 after their personal residence and equity in the business are deducted.
