About this programme
Wyoming's State Trade Expansion Program (STEP) is a grant, administered by the Wyoming Business Council (WBC) and funded through the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), that supports Wyoming businesses attending international marketing events. It exists to grow small-business exports and help companies explore new trade opportunities.
The current grant period runs July 1, 2026 through September 29, 2027. Total program funding is $233,333, made up of $175,000 in federal SBA money (75%) and $58,333 in non-federal match (25%).
How it works
STEP reimburses 75% of eligible expenses tied to an international marketing event, up to a maximum award of $5,000 per application.
A business can receive a maximum of two awards within the current grant period.
Activities that happen before your contract is signed are not eligible for reimbursement.
Who can apply
The business must meet SBA small-business size standards, be physically located and operated from Wyoming, and have at least one full-time employee besides the owner.
Products or services must have at least 51% U.S. content.
The business must take part in business-to-business meetings during the trade event it is funded for.
How to apply
- Submit your application; WBC's typical approval timeframe is 5 to 10 business days.
- Gather the required identifiers and registrations: NAICS code, HS code, ECCN, D-U-N-S number, SAM registration, and debarment certification.
- Finalize your contract with WBC, which can take up to 30 working days.
- Attend the international marketing event only after your contract is signed; costs incurred before that are not reimbursable.
